39TH FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION AT DONKOKROM

The 39th National Farmers’ Day celebration was organized by the Department of Agriculture at Donkokrom, a suburb of Kenyasi No.1 in the Asutifi North District.

 In the year 1984, the government of the Republic of Ghana instituted an award scheme to reward hardworking farmers and fishermen. The day/date designated for the commemoration was slated for every first Friday of December. This year farmers’ day fell on 1st December, 2023 under the theme; Delivering smart solutions for sustainable food security and resilience.

In attendance was the Member of Parliament for Asutifi North Constituency, Hon. Patrick Bannor, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Mensah, the District Coordinating Director, a representative from Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, traditional leaders from Kenyasi No.1, Kenyasi No.2 and Donkokrom, Assembly members, Staff from the district Assembly and the community members.

Farmers displayed various farm produce such as plantain, cassava, cocoyam, cocoa pods, oranges among others. Also livestock such as fowls, goats, sheep etc. was displayed at the ceremonial ground.

At the end of the ceremony, the awardees received items like tricycle(Aboboya),motorbikes, television sets, spraying machine, bicycles, cutlasses, wellington boots among others.
