The Aquaya Institute’s year-long pilot water testing programme officially ended in January 2021. Along with the handpumps used by the District Assembly in Kenyasi, community water systems in Kenyasi No.2, Ntotroso, Kensere, and Gambia participated in the Water testing program’s trial phase. The pilot initiative, which was carried out in cooperation with the Ghana Water Company Limited, the Asutifi North District Assembly, and WSMT, opened up the possibility for monthly water testing on some of the district’s boreholes piped water systems at a reduced cost.
WSMT in these communities were contacted by Aquaya Institute to gauge their desire in continuing the monthly water testing project when the pilot phase came to an end. This was especially important because, in some circumstances, the pilot phase’s testing costs were subsidised by up to 83 per cent. Since every WSMT involved has expressed a desire to continue the monthly water testing project, Aquaya will evaluate and renew its contracts with the District Assembly and Ghana Water Company in the coming weeks to guarantee that water testing will continue for the rest of the year.
