Asutifi North District Assembly officials in charge of district planning and environmental health, as well as SHEP Coordinators from Ghana Education Service (GES), joined forces with Aquaya in January 2021 to launch a campaign to increase community awareness of and appreciation for properly treated water. The sensitization covered topics like how their water supplies were contaminated, different levels of water pollution, health hazards related to drinking and using contaminated water, how to use suggested treatment methods like boiling and Aquatabs, and safe handling and storage of water.
After weeks of delivering and monitoring the sale of Aquatabs at several sales locations (Water Kiosks) in communities around the Asutifi North District, it was discovered that community members were not purchasing many Aqua Tabs. The low level of community members’ knowledge of the importance of consuming safely/properly treated water was blamed for the slow sales.
