The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) officially commissioned its Kenyasi No. 2 Campus in the Ahafo Region on 24th July 2026. The historic event marked a significant milestone in Ghana’s efforts to expand access to quality tertiary education, particularly in the fields of mining, engineering, science, and technology.
The commissioning ceremony brought together government officials, traditional authorities, academia, development partners, and members of the public to celebrate the successful completion of the new campus.
The establishment of the Kenyasi No. 2 Campus was made possible through the collaborative efforts and support of several key institutions, including; University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Newmont Ghana Gold limited, Kenyasi No. 2 Traditional Council, Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council, Ministry of Education, Asutifi North District Assembly, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC)
The commissioning programme featured addresses from representatives of the partner institutions, who emphasised the importance of investing in higher education as a catalyst for national development. Speakers noted that the establishment of the new campus would provide increased opportunities for students to pursue specialised programmes in mining and related disciplines while supporting research, innovation, and skills development.
Representatives of Newmont Ghana reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting educational initiatives and community development, while the Kenyasi No. 2 Traditional Council expressed appreciation to all stakeholders whose contributions made the project a reality.
