COMMUNITY SENSITIZATION TOWARDS GLOBAL HANDWASHING

A team  from the District’s Education and Health Directorates, ANAM WASH Desk, IRC Ghana, SUDEF Ghana, and GADeF International launched a three-day community sensitization campaign from October 10 to October 13 as part of cooperative activities in the Asutifi North District leading up to the commemoration of Global Handwashing Day.

The goal of the sensitization program was to encourage schoolchildren in a few villages and schools to wash their hands properly, especially with soap and running water. A team from the sensitization campaign went to Goamu Koforidua, Asamang, Yawbrefo, and Kramokrom schools. The team interacted with community people in each of the communities they visited in addition to the schoolchildren in these areas. The sensitization team took advantage of the chance to instruct and show the schoolchildren how to properly wash their hands. In order to encourage the practice of routine handwashing under running water, the team also took advantage of the chance to instruct community members on how to build a simple Tippy Tap for use at home or on their farms.
