As part of efforts to promote improved agricultural practices and increase farm productivity, the Department of Agriculture of the Asutifi North District established and showcased demonstration farms at Yabeneagya on 30th March 2025. The initiative aimed at exposing farmers to modern, climate-smart, and cost-effective farming techniques to enhance crop yields and ensure food security.
To demonstrate improved crop production technologies and best agronomic practices, encourage the adoption of modern farming methods among local farmers, improve crop yields and farm income through practical learning, promote climate-smart and sustainable agriculture and strengthen farmer-to-extension officer interactions are the main purpose.
These are the participants include: Local farmers (both male and female), Agricultural Extension Officers (AEOs), Assembly Member, opinion leaders, Youth farmers and farmer-based organizations. A total of 105 farmers participated in the exercise.
Agricultural Extension Officers conducted hands-on training on: Soil fertility management and composting, Climate-smart farming practices, Efficient water usage and moisture conservation and Record keeping and farm planning. Farmers were allowed to participate directly in planting, fertilizer application, and pest control demonstrations.
The demonstration farms established at Yabeneagya on 30th March 2025 successfully achieved their objectives of improving farmer knowledge and promoting modern agricultural practices. The initiative has laid a strong foundation for increased productivity and sustainable farming within the Asutifi North District.
