In accordance with section 8 of Ghana AIDS Commission (GAC) Act 2016 (Act 938), the Ahafo Regional Co-ordinating Council and Asutifi North met at the Assembly Conference Hall on 12th August 2026 to reconstitute the District Committee of the Ghana AIDS Commission. The programme brought together representatives of the Ghana AIDS Commission, the District Chief Executive, the District Director of Health, the District Education Director, a representative of Nananom, a representative from Christian and Muslim missions, and other important stakeholhers with an interest in the prevention and management of HIV and AIDS.

The reconstitution of the committees forms part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and coordination among stakeholders at the regional and district levels in the fight against HIV and AIDS.

The main purpose of the programme was to formally reconstitute District Committees of the Ghana AIDS Commission and strengthen their role in coordinating HIV and AIDS-related activities within their respective areas.

The committees are expected to facilitate collaboration among stakeholders, support awareness creation, promote HIV testing and contribute to efforts aimed at reducing the spread of HIV and other related diseases.

In his remarks, the Regional Representative of the Ghana AIDS Commission highlighted the importance of intensified efforts to address the HIV and AIDS situation.

He stated that 337,435 people are currently living with HIV/AIDS, with 13,951 cases recorded in the previous year. He noted that the figures call for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to intensify education and awareness creation within communities.

He further emphasized the need for increased sensitization on HIV testing so that individuals would know their status and take appropriate preventive measures. According to him, regular testing, early detection and increased public awareness are important measures in preventing the rampant spread of diseases.

The Regional Representative therefore encouraged the reconstituted committees to work closely with communities, institutions and other stakeholders to promote HIV prevention, testing and awareness.
