DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE AND REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF GIFEC TOUR TO TELEPHONE BOOSTER SITES IN THE ASUTIFI NORTH DISTRICT

On Monday 2nd February, 2026 the Hon. District Chief Executive together with the Ahafo Regional Director of GIFEC visited eight (8) telephone booster sites across the district. The communities visited included Wamahinso, Amomaso, Kwakuri, Atwedie, Kwadwo Nkrumah, Agravi, Adukrom and Bogyampa.

The visit was necessitated by the growing concerns of community members on the poor network coverage and its negative effects on their livelihood. The visit also afforded the team the opportunity to be abreast with first hand information on the booster sites in the district. The following observations were made during the visit to the sites;

  • Six (6) out of the eight (8) sites relied heavily on solar as the main source of energy to power the equipment. This situation has led to continuous fluctuations and at times complete shut-down of the entire communication system in these communities and their environs – a situation that cuts the people from the rest of the globe.
  • It was also observed that most of the sites did not have designated persons to man the facility. Some few communities had community volunteers with no requisite skill who man the sites.
  • Community members equally lamented on the ordeal they normally go through in order to reach out to their relatives in times of emergencies and the performance of any financial transactions electronically. Teachers and Nurses in particular also complained bitterly about the challenges they have to go through in order to submit reports and data to their respective district offices. They are always compelled to travel to nearby communities to access internet and submit reports on time.

The Regional Director of GIFEC expressed worry over the poor network coverage in these communities and pledged to do whatever within his outfit’s means to restore network coverage in these communities and beyond. He mentioned that plans were far advanced to restoring network at the sites and also extend telephone coverage services to other hard to reach communities.

The Hon. District Chief Executive expressed his appreciation to the Ahafo Regional Director of GIFEC and his team for their swift response to his call. He also pledged to support the team to resolve the poor network issues the district is battling with. He craved the indulgence of community members to exercise restraint and assured them of his commitment to meet their needs.
