COMMISSIONING OF ULTRA-MODERN ASTROTURF AT KENYASI, ASUTIFI NORTH DISTRICT
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Minerals Commission, the Asutifi North District Assembly, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited and other stakeholders, on Tuesday, 25th August 2026, commissioned an ultra-modern Astroturf facility at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District.
The commissioning marked a significant milestone in the development of sports and recreational infrastructure in the District. The facility provides a safe, modern, and accessible environment for football development, youth engagement, physical fitness, and other sporting activities.
The project is expected to play an important role in identifying and nurturing young sporting talents, promoting discipline, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and social cohesion among the youth. It will also provide young footballers and sports enthusiasts with improved opportunities to train, compete, and develop their skills.
The ceremony brought together the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, the Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, the Ahafo Regional Minister, Board Members of the Minerals Commission, the District Chief Executive of Asutifi North District,NGGL, Nananom, community members, youth groups, sports enthusiasts, and other distinguished guests.
The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to providing similar facilities across the country to help identify, nurture and develop sporting talents, particularly among the youth.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission indicated that his office, in collaboration with Newmont Ghana Gold Limited, provided the necessary resources and support to make the project a reality. He noted that the initiative reflects the commitment of the Minerals Commission and its partners to providing sustainable development infrastructure that benefits mining communities and nurtures local sporting talent.
The Ahafo Regional Minister expressed appreciation to the Government, the Minerals Commission and other stakeholders for the gesture. She further pledged the Region’s support and collaboration towards the proper management, maintenance and effective utilisation of the facility for the benefit of the people.
Nananom, in their remarks, expressed their appreciation for the development and reaffirmed their willingness to make land available for developmental projects and other initiatives aimed at promoting the socio-economic development of the Asutifi North District.
The Asutifi North District Assembly expressed its commitment to ensuring the proper maintenance and effective management of the facility. The people of the District, particularly the youth and sporting groups, were encouraged to take ownership of the facility and use it responsibly
