“Promoting Youth Employment through Employable Skills Training and Entrepreneurship” was the name of the initiative, which was funded by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited (NGGL) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ).
Dr. Bawumia noted that 72% of the country’s population was under 35 years old while speaking at the ceremony held in Goaso, the Ahafo Regional capital, and praised the Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council for the initiative.
The Vice President stated that the program “is the first regionally driven youth employment and skills training initiative in the country” and pledged the assistance of the executive branch for it to be successful.
The implementation of the program, according to Ahafo Regional Minister Hon. George Yaw Boakye, will put the program’s participants in a good position to find employment for themselves and lower young unemployment in the area.
Along with ending the region’s problems with illegal mining and logging, this would also economically empower young people in the fields of welding and fabrication, barbering, fashion design, hair styling, dressmaking, bakery, masonry, wood technology, vulcanizing, general spraying, and auto mechanics.
Mr. Boakye praised the business for its support and said that the NGGL Management has put aside GhC1 million for the procurement of training tools and startup tools.
He claimed that each of the six MMDAs has been allocated GhC25,000 to help carry out the scheme.
The youth were also exhorted by Nana Kwasi Bosompra I, the Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area, to become interested in training for useful skills and to take advantage of the program
