ANAM WASH PARTNERS HOLD INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ CONTEST FOR SCHOOLS IN ASUTIFI NORTH DISTRICT.

Asutifi North Ahonidie Mpumtuo(ANAM) WASH partners on Thursday 14, October held an inter-school quiz competition at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District as part of series of events toward commemorating this year’s Global Hand washing day.

This year’s Global HandWashing Day which is themed, “Our future is at hand, let’s move on together”has the Network engaging in five-day long activities including sensitisation of schools and community, inter-school quiz competition, media engagement and donation of hand washing supplies to a selected communities within the District.

The contest ended with District Assembly (DA) Girls School being crowned winners. Other participatingschools included T.I Ahmadiya school, Ntotroso District Assembly school and Kenyasi 1 and Kenyasi 2 Methodist schools.

The Asutifi North DistrictEducation director, Madam Naomi Asantewaa expressed gratitude to partners of ANAM for including the contest as part of events to mark this year’s celebration. “This program is very necessary and couldn’t have come at a better time. COVID-19 is still with us and hand-washing activities are very necessary in the fight to keep everyone safe. We are grateful to World Vision and it’s partners for instituting it”, she said.

ANAM initiative was conceived and launched in 2018 in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6. It seeks to achieve a district-wide access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services for all by 2030. The Asutifi North District Assembly provides leadership for the implementation of the masterplanwith support from selected grantees of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation – International Rescue Committee (IRC), Safe Water Network, Netcentric Campaigns, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Aquaya Institute and WorldVision international. Asutifi North DistrictProject Coordinator for World Vision Ghana, Mr. Cephas Wedam explained the quizforms part of ANAM’s activities toward the Global hand washing day on October 15th ,2021. “The idea behind this is to increase the knowledge ofthe kids on hygiene and the essence of washing hands. And as a child focus organisation, we feelchanneling our WASH messages through children will penetrate deeply into the hearts and minds of the people in this district”, he added.

The week-long program wasclimaxed with an engagement with district folks through a local radio station(Anapua FM) and grand durbar at Goamu koforidua, all with sensitization on handwashing.
