The Asutifi North District Assembly in collaboration with National Road Safety Authority – Ahafo Region on 15th February, 2023 formed and inaugurated District Road Safety Committee to check the high rate of road accidents in the District.
The Ahafo Regional Director of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Mrs. Indira Apronti in her presentation, informed the gathering that, the purpose of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) was to ensure the development of local capacity for road safety across the District to promote participation, motivation and prompt redress to road safety challenges.
The members of the committee were drawn from the District Assembly, Transport Unions, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Traditional Councils, Ghana Education Service, District Health Service and among others.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Anthony Mensah in his address expressed a sincere appreciation to Nananom and other stakeholders’ to be part of the inaugural ceremony of the District Road Safety Committee.
He implored the Committee to ensure that, the mandate given them be executed to the benefit of the good people of Asutifi North District. He reiterated, the rate at which people die through road traffic accidents in Kenyasi was very alarming, which formed the basis for establishing Road Safety office in the district.
The District Chief Executive mentioned that, most road traffic accidents happened as a result of people failure to observe basic road regulations, when using the roads, particularly the Pragya and Motor riders.
Hon. Anthony Mensah inaugurated the Committee and handed over an office to the Regional Director to be used as District Road Safety office at Kenyasi. He pledged the commitment of the District Assembly to support the activities of the committee.
