On 5th June 2024, the Asutifi North District Assembly, under the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project 2 (GPSNP2), conducted a disbursement of cash grants and organized a mini-market event for 250 beneficiaries. The initiative aimed to support vulnerable individuals and households by providing them with financial assistance and market opportunities to enhance their livelihoods. The event took place at the District Assembly Grounds and was attended by representatives from the District Assembly, social protection officers, community leaders, and the beneficiaries.
GPSNP2 is a government initiative aimed at improving the livelihoods of vulnerable populations through social protection programs, including cash transfers, public works, and livelihood empowerment activities. The disbursement and mini-market event in Asutifi North District form part of the project’s broader goal to reduce poverty and promote economic inclusion.
The event began with an opening prayer and welcome address by the District Social Welfare Officer, who highlighted the importance of the GPSNP2 program in supporting vulnerable populations. The Officer stressed the need for beneficiaries to utilize the grants responsibly to improve their livelihoods.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reducing poverty and promoting economic empowerment through targeted social protection programs. The DCE encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the financial support and explore opportunities to invest in small businesses or other income-generating ventures.
The cash grants were disbursed to 250 beneficiaries, each receiving a designated amount directly through a transparent and efficient payment system. The disbursement process was closely monitored by officials from the District Assembly and representatives from the GPSNP2 coordination team to ensure accuracy and accountability.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the financial assistance, noting that the grants would help them meet essential needs such as food, healthcare, education, and small business investments. A mini-market was set up at the event grounds, featuring stalls from local vendors offering a variety of goods, including food items, household essentials, clothing, and small business tools. The market provided beneficiaries with an opportunity to purchase items at subsidized prices, maximizing the impact of their cash grants.
Beneficiaries were allowed to share their experiences and provide feedback on the disbursement process and the mini-market event. Many expressed appreciation for the support and highlighted the positive impact of the cash grants on their household finances.
While the mini-market offered essential goods, some beneficiaries noted a limited variety of items, particularly in terms of agricultural inputs and small business tools, which are critical for income-generating activities.
The disbursement of cash grants and the mini-market event under GPSNP2 in the Asutifi North District was a successful initiative that provided critical support to 250 vulnerable beneficiaries. By addressing immediate financial needs and promoting economic empowerment, the program contributed to the overall goals of poverty reduction and social inclusion in the district.
