The Asutifi North District Assembly, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, launched the “My First Day at School” program on 1st February 2024. This annual initiative aims to welcome and motivate newly enrolled pupils in kindergarten and primary schools across the district. The program is designed to encourage school attendance, reduce dropout rates, and promote a positive attitude towards education among young children.
The event was marked with visits to various schools within the district by key stakeholders, including the District Chief Executive (DCE), education officials, teachers, parents, and community leaders.
To encourage parents and guardians to enrol their children in school at the right age, ensuring that every child has access to basic education, create excitement and enthusiasm among new pupils, making their first day at school memorable and encouraging regular attendance, and emphasize the importance of early childhood education as the foundation for lifelong learning and development.
The DCE, along with education officers and other dignitaries, visited several schools within the district, including Gyedu Primary School, Kenyasi Methodist School, and Ntotroso Presbyterian School. The visits aimed to personally welcome the new pupils, interact with them and provide words of encouragement.
During these visits, the dignitaries engaged with the children in classrooms joined them in singing, and participated in various activities designed to make the children feel comfortable and excited about their first day at school.
The DCE, in his address, expressed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting education as a key pillar of the district’s development agenda. He highlighted the importance of starting school early and receiving a quality education as foundational steps towards a brighter future.
The DCE also acknowledged the efforts of teachers and parents in nurturing young minds and called for continued collaboration to ensure that every child in the district has access to education.
The “My First Day at School” program in the Asutifi North District Assembly on 1st February 2024 was a resounding success, marking the beginning of an exciting educational journey for many young children. The initiative not only welcomed new pupils but also reinforced the district’s commitment to providing quality education for all.
