On 3rd September, 2026, the Asutifi North District Assembly supported thirty-seven (37) Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with livelihood support items to enhance their economic well-being, promote self-reliance and improve their capacity to engage in sustainable income-generating activities. The items included Refrigerators, Fufu pounding machine, Grinding Mill, Provision store items, Rabbits, Sheep among others.
The support was provided under the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) allocation for Persons with Disabilities, representing the 5% Common Fund support earmarked for interventions aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of PWDs. The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s commitment to promoting social inclusion, reducing economic vulnerability and creating opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate meaningfully in the development of the district.
The objective of the intervention was to provide selected PWDs with livelihood support items that would enable them to establish, expand income-generating activities. The support is to enhance the beneficiaries’ economic independence, improve household livelihoods and contribute to their overall standard of living.
Speaking at the ceremony, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Dauda Hafiz Dabeil, stated that the intervention was aimed at empowering PWDs to become more economically active and self-reliant. He indicated that the livelihood items would provide beneficiaries with the necessary support to engage in productive economic activities and improve their living conditions.
The DCE further emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to creating an enabling environment in which persons with disabilities could access opportunities and contribute effectively to the socio-economic development of the district. He encouraged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the items, maintain them properly and utilize them strictly for their intended purposes.
The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Asutifi North District Assembly for the support. They acknowledged that the intervention would provide them with an opportunity to improve their livelihoods, generate income and become more economically independent. They further expressed their commitment to using the items responsibly and effectively to achieve the objectives for which the support was provided.
The District Head of the Social Welfare and Community Development Department, Mrs. Monica Osei Mensah in her submission, indicated that the Department would undertake regular monitoring of the livelihood items distributed to beneficiaries. The monitoring exercise is to ensure that the items are utilized for their intended purposes and are contributing meaningfully to the economic well-being of the beneficiaries. The monitoring will also enable the Department to assess the progress of beneficiaries, identify challenges that may hinder the effective utilization of the items and provide the necessary technical guidance and support to address such challenges where required.
