Inauguration of Goamu Area Council in Asutifi North District Assembly

On 23rd April 2024, the Asutifi North District Assembly officially inaugurated the Goamu Area Council, marking a significant step in enhancing local governance and community participation in the district. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Goamu Pentecost church and was attended by key stakeholders, including the Presiding Member (PM), traditional leaders, assembly members, representatives from various local government bodies, civil society groups, and community members.

The establishment of the Goamu Area Council aims to decentralize administrative functions, improve local service delivery, and empower communities to actively participate in decision-making processes that affect their development.

To establish a functional Area Council that will bring governance closer to the people and improve the responsiveness of local government to community needs, To encourage active involvement of residents in local governance, including planning, budgeting, and implementation of development projects, To enhance the efficiency of service delivery in the Goamu area by providing a structured platform for addressing local issues, managing resources, and implementing community-driven projects. To support the assembly’s efforts in mobilizing local resources through the collection of rates, fees, and licenses within the Goamu area.

The ceremony commenced with a welcome address by the PM, who highlighted the importance of the Area Council in promoting local development and good governance. The PM stressed that the council would serve as a vital link between the district assembly and the communities, facilitating more effective communication and collaboration. The PM also underscored the government’s commitment to decentralization and local governance, noting that the establishment of the Goamu Area Council aligns with national policies aimed at empowering local communities.

The newly appointed Chairman of the Goamu Area Council delivered an inaugural speech, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him and the council members. He pledged to work diligently to ensure that the council meets its objectives and serves the best interests of the Goamu community.

The Chairman outlined the council’s immediate priorities, which include improving sanitation, enhancing security, and addressing key community concerns such as water supply and road maintenance. He called on all community members to support the council’s initiatives and participate actively in local governance.

The ceremony included the swearing-in of the newly elected and appointed members of the Goamu Area Council. The members took an oath of office, pledging to uphold the principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability in their roles. The council is composed of representatives from various segments of the community, including traditional authorities, women’s groups, youth organizations, and local business associations, ensuring diverse representation and inclusive decision-making.
