On 18th June 2024, the Asutifi North District Assembly inaugurated the Ntotroso Area Council, a significant step towards enhancing local governance and community involvement in the Ntotroso area. The inauguration event was held at the Charismatic Center and was attended by key dignitaries, including the District Co-ordinating Director, Presiding Member, traditional rulers, assembly members, representatives from various local government agencies, Area Council Members, and community members.
The Ntotroso Area Council is established to decentralize decision-making, improve service delivery, and strengthen the involvement of local communities in governance and development processes. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Asutifi North District Assembly to promote inclusive and participatory governance at the grassroots level.
To bring government closer to the people by establishing a local council that will handle administrative and governance issues specific to the Ntotroso area, empowering community members to actively participate in local governance, including planning, budgeting, and implementation of projects that directly affect their lives, creating a responsive and efficient local governance structure that addresses the unique needs of the Ntotroso area, including infrastructure, health, education, and sanitation services, facilitate the planning and execution of development projects that align with the community’s priorities, thereby enhancing the overall well-being of residents.
The ceremony began with an opening prayer and a welcome address by the DCD, who outlined the significance of the new council in fostering local development and governance. The DCD emphasized the importance of the council in providing a platform for community members to voice their concerns and contribute to decision-making processes.
The DCD also highlighted the assembly’s commitment to supporting the council in its operations and ensuring that it receives the necessary resources to function effectively.
The Area Council members voted to elect their Chairman, They voted Hon. Nicholas Omani Acheampong as their Chairperson for the Council. The Chairman of the newly inaugurated Ntotroso Area Council delivered an inaugural address, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the community. He pledged to lead the council with integrity and dedication, focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Ntotroso residents
The Chairman outlined the council’s initial priorities, which include improving local infrastructure, enhancing sanitation, addressing security concerns, and promoting educational initiatives. He called on all community members to actively participate in the council’s activities and collaborate towards achieving common goals.
The event included the swearing-in of the newly elected and appointed members of the Ntotroso Area Council. Members took an oath of office, committing to serve the community with transparency, accountability, and dedication.
The council will play a central role in planning and prioritizing development projects within the Ntotroso area, working in close collaboration with the district assembly to ensure alignment with broader district goals.
