The Asutifi North District Assembly joined the nation in commemorating Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary on Friday, 6th March 2026, at the Kenyasi Sports Stadium. The celebration brought together government officials, traditional authorities, security services, school children, teachers, religious leaders, assembly members, and residents of the district to reflect on Ghana’s journey since independence and renew their commitment to national development.
The celebration was held under the national theme:”Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.”
The event commenced with the arrival of dignitaries and participating schools. The parade commander assembled contingents from various basic and secondary schools as well as security services within the district.
In his address, the District Chief Executive expressed gratitude to Almighty God for preserving Ghana through 69 years of nationhood. He commended the planning committee, parade commander, schools, security agencies, and all stakeholders whose efforts contributed to the successful organization of the celebration.
The address emphasized the importance of honouring Ghana’s heroes, including the Big Six, the three ex-servicemen who lost their lives at the Christiansborg Crossroads, and other distinguished national figures such as Paa Grant and Yaa Asantewaa.
The gathering was reminded of the sacrifices made by the country’s forebears in securing independence and urged to emulate their patriotism and commitment to national development.
The speech further highlighted government interventions in education, healthcare, skills training, and infrastructure development aimed at improving livelihoods and creating opportunities for citizens. Particular reference was made to ongoing construction projects, including educational and health facilities within the district.
School children were encouraged to appreciate the significance of independence, remain disciplined, work hard in their studies, and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the nation at large.
